Dr. Newsome is the co-owner of a small business, Flight to Excellence, Educational Consultants, LLC, where she is the senior vice president. As an educator, she served in public and private school for 53 years as teacher, reading specialist, assistant principal, and principal. She also served as adjunct professor at Bowie State University (MD) for 15 years. Her article, "Effective Use of Assistant Principals," was published in the Clute Professional Journal of Teaching and Learning. Consistent with Dr. Newsome's educational goals, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) in Early Childhood Education (Elizabeth City, NC) a Master of Arts degree in Reading (Bowie State University) and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Administration (Pensacola Christian College).
As a woman of influence and action, she has received numerous awards. She was Ms. ECSU Alumni, and raising over $20,000 to achieve the coveted honor. Her photography work was accepted into the Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) Online Humanities and Fine Arts Gallery, 2019 and 2021, 2023, and 2024. She was also the elected 2021 Woman of the Year for the Oxon Hill Charter Chapter (OHCC). Dr. Newsome is often called upon to assume a myriad of responsibilities. Hence, she has made it a personal goal to help educators, business women, and aspiring college students to achieve their career goals. She has been a member of Oxon Hill Charter Chapter since 2016. During her tenure she has sponsored 40 new members, and was featured in the 2021, 2022 and 2023 Achieve Magazine of ABWA for her diligent efforts in new member recruitment. As a financial supporter, she has served as Vice President, Education Chair, and a committee member of several activities initiated in the OHCC. For 2024-2025 program year she is President Elect of OHCC. Dr. Newsome is a supporter of Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), and has been a consistent fundraiser for student support for over ten (10) years. She is First Vice President of ECSU National Alumni Association, LLC, President of DCSO Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society of Key Women Educators, and former President of Just Friends Book Club (JFBC), where the members support the Battered Women's Shelter of Prince George's County. A natural explorer, Dr. Newsome enjoys experiencing new customs, cultures and people. She has traveled throughout the Caribbean Islands, West Africa, and Europe. She is a member of Reid Temple AME Church of Glendale, Maryland, and is the proud wife of Dr. Edward Newsome, Jr. for over 50 years.
